Robin Barbour page 2:
Scottish scenes - highlands and
lowlands
 |
1 Feb. 1964 - Robin
is paying a visit to some long-gone lines in the Highlands -
starting with 45423 at Callander, seen on the 1.30pm to Glasgow |
 |
Robin headed in the
opposite direction from Callander - paying a visit to the Killin
branch. Three views of 2-6-4T 80126 (ridiculous overpower for the
single-coach branch service) - firstly at Killin, on the 1.52pm to
Killin Junction. It is then seen at the latter, presumably shortly
after arriving with the branch service, and finally at the tiny Loch
Tay shed at the end of the branch. |
 |
 |
 |
His final venue for
the same day's outing is the Ballinluig - Aberfeldy branch - once
again a case of motive power overkill, in this case a Derby type 2
no D5125 on a single coach. Is it any wonder these branches are no longer with us? |
 |
 |
We're in the lowlands
now, for a couple of views of the main lines converging on
Carlisle. Firstly, 45481 is seen hurrying through Riddings
Junction (for the Langholm branch), followed by none other than
now-preserved "Royal Scot" no. 46115 "Scots Guardsman" at Quintinshill. |
 |
 |
Finally, some shed
scenes, and some ex-LNER steam. Two ex-NBR 0-6-0s, LNER class J36
nos. 65282 and 65267 are seen in the shed yard at Bathgate.
Below, V2s 60835 and 60955 accompany A1
60145 "Saint Mungo". I'm guessing St Margarets - but if
anyone out there knows better, please let me know. |
 |
Not all of Robin's negatives were
captioned - if anyone out there can help with locations and/or dates,
I'd be very grateful...
