The annual steam gala at Amerton is always fun. The circular line is operated with trains running in both directions, passing at the station and the loop out in the fields. The net result, as fairly described by my wife, is "Keystone Cops with little trains"... For this year's gala, resident "Isabel" (WB 1491 of 1897) was joined by regular visitors, Kerr Stuart "Wrens" Pixie (4260 of 1922) and Peter Pan (4256 of 1922), and from the West Lancs Light Railway, "Irish Mail", ex-Dinorwic Hunslet (823 of 1903). A further "Wren" is resident on the line - "Lorna Doone", ex- Birmingham Science Museum. Non-operational, she posed in the yard for photographers.

Amerton Gala Isabel, Pixie, Peter Pan and Irish Mail, in action on passenger and freight
We spent a very pleasant afternoon there (as ever) - the nature of the line means that all parts can be visited on foot with little effort, and the winding track makes for interesting photography. If you haven't been - put it in your diary.
