Heritage Open Day (it’s a weekend now) is here again, and we’re dodging the showers on the Welsh border to visit the newly-developed monorail layout at Nantmawr. Last year, the equipment had only just arrived; now there’s a working monorail line, with rides on a couple of wagons adapted to carry passengers. We had to have a ride, of course. There’s only one working locomotive at present, and it’s not overpowered, so human assistance is sometimes required on the steeper parts. “The last time I was on a ride like that was in the fairground”, my wife commented. She’d enjoyed it greatly - this is real railway fun. There’s no shortage of equipment here. One day, perhaps, the steam loco will be in action again, and there’s plenty of track to extend the layout.
