We left Viseu on a morning service formed of one of the single-ended railcars (one is seen above), and spent the day watching activities at this busy junction. A number of locomotives were in evidence here, of several types, ranging from small 2-6-0Ts such as E96, seen on the viaduct with a train for Aveiro to one of the large 2-4-6-0Ts such as E210, seen leaving with a freight.

E95 and E210, Sernada do Vouga E96 coaling and raising steam, Sernada do Vouga E95 and E123, Sernada do Vouga

E96 heads away from Sernada do Vouga with a train for Aveiro E210 leaves Sernada do Vouga with a freight train E123, E95 and E84 at Sernada do Vouga

Later in the afternoon, we left Sernada and travelled to Espinho, a few miles south of Porto on the main line. This would be our base for the next few days.
